assumptions

many a time i have realised that people just love to work with assumptions. We all do that, for sure. That's where the word 'initiative' is derived from. Assumptions give us a separate, but somehow linked piece of information that might be useful in helping us make a decision when the time calls for it. It's where we excel at things when expectations are met, since everyone lives around expectations too. It's natural, it's who we are as humans and that's perfectly fine.

What is NOT fine, however, is the abuse of one's own assumptions to make a decision that leads to even greater doubts and problems for either yourself or those around you. What i mean by 'abuse' is allowing past experiences or occurrences to decide on situations that are completely unrelated in the present and thinking that you are taking initiative. When i say 'initiative', it's not a general term or a neutral term. It's a positive term, and when things start getting out of hand, you just don't call that initiative anymore.

I call that mindlessness.

What makes the above matter even worse is thinking and behaving that you acted on initiative instead. You can go ahead and comfort yourself, live in great gratification because you did the 'right thing' and keep telling yourself that, it's okay. You might be right, and in certain cases you could probably be let off. That's due to luck. But if you are wrong, well, then expect to bear the full consequences of your actions. They're not going to be very pleasant.

Indeed.
