amazing

yesterday, we hit the south shore of singapore to participate in the amazing race held by foochow methodist church. four of us (sean, dawn, me and jacky) got our group from randomly mixing people and three of us weren't even from the church. our pre-event discussions reminded us that we were only doing this for fun and we had absolutely no plans on winning AT ALL. we planned to walk the whole time, more to enjoy the scenery and spend time together rather than running up and down.

the weather was horrendously scorching and all of us couldn't stand being in the sun so we applied sunblock and hid under shade when we could. we had to play some ice-breaker stuff at the starting which was pretty lame and unproductive (i will not go into details) but the good thing was we didn't have to hang around this area for long, or we'd have died of heatstroke (yes, it was THAT hot.)

when the race was flagged off, none of the people from the 12 teams actually even jogged to their first station. everyone just strolled from one end to another. it was pretty amusing, but judging from the people we saw at the meeting point earlier we knew not many of them would actually run.
so basically, we went around answering questions, with the help of a map, the number 1800-SENTOSA, sean's GPRS network (i couldn't get wi-fi) and being observant. some stations were action stations, which means we had to do something "complex" or challenging before we got to get our answers. they were pretty okay.

we got our answers quite quickly but we always thought someone had beat us to it (someone always does anyway). but we had no idea how things turned out and we ended up being the first team to come in with the most number of correct answers (amazing huh?) and so we got the first cash prize of $100 (to be split between 4 people). overall, the race was quite okay (the questions couldn't boggle people like us who have been there countless times for the not-so-island-life reasons) and we were initially quite surprised with our win until we realised that 8 teams had given up and gone home by the time the race ended. lol.

so basically, we went back to vivo with dawn's super-weird friend (who looked and dressed like a rabbit) to have dinner. since many of us didn't have lunch (and mango yogurt ice cream is not), we were starving and had our dinner at superdog. jacky blew his $25 on two superdog meals because he must have been dying already and had to finish up another two packs of fries becasue the rest couldn't finish theirs. after dinner, we found an empty space on the rooftop garden, set our stuff down, bought a few bottles of bacardi and toasted to our winning as well as to play drinking games. someone cheated with apple-aloe vera instead of alcohol.

the only person with the huge 7-11 bag and not a glass bottle

this was just the beginning of jacky's meal--the first bite. many more to come.

someone's under-age drinking. call the police and get the easter bunny arrested!

how we had to ask more than 5 shops whether they'd split the money for us and got turned down (even by a money-changer). eventually we decided to visit the best place--the bank.
