it was december 12 and it would be the last time where we would spend our afternoons, evenings and nights for the last time on Pulau Segayang. it was on this day where i took notice of even more interesting and smaller things. things that would make this island unforgettable.
first thing in the morning was the mass lecture conducted by the various groups--soil, GPS, fish and mangrove to name a few. we sat in the open ground, under the roasting sun and listened to what the group leaders had to say. having completed our eye-openers, we headed off for the island of Pulau Petong after lunch. it was our first and last time there, unlike the OCIP groups. we took a boat down to the jetties where we were greeted by an onslaught of children, none of them older than 15.
it was heartwarming to see so many of them welcome us with open arms and smiles on their faces.
we took a tour through their villages and their school (which we later found out had only 5 classrooms), and finally reached the coast of the island where we presented the clothing to them. then there was a soccer match between the villagers and the CJC students (we got owned REAL badly).
it was quite hard for us to leave the island in the evening as it was sad to see the kids waving us goodbye. we had only spent a few hours on that island, yet we felt so at home. as the boat reversed out of the jetty back to Pulau Segayang, i sort of wished we had stayed there longer. but all good things have to come to an end sooner or later, and this was no exception. however i still thank God for giving us the opportunity to have even experienced this in the first place.
