well if you think i'm mad then i probably am. i have had enough in china. the place makes you go bonkers. and i mean it. although i snapped a considerable amount of photos (around 100 i think) it was still bad enough. why? well some things, in my opinion, are easier and better experienced than narrated about. the pictures i have all look nice, but trust me looks can be deceiving.
so off we go and leaving behind things we don't want to look back on. and for your information, i did not take SIA. my parents decided to forfeit the wonderful service, the hot towels, the in-flight entertainment system, really edible food, leg-rests and reclining seats for a reduction in $100 per ticket. is that a lot? i don't really know. but my beloved guitar, i say again, BELOVED, had the chance to fly business class. yes. i'm serious. it had a seat all to itself. apparently the stewardess decided that it wouldn't fit into the overhead luggage compartments (i swear i'll kick their asses if they try) so they kindly gave it a seat. now that's good service. i wonder if they gave it some wine. hmmm.
the most hilarious thing and also the most irritating on board was that my sis told me they actually had a TV for everyone to watch. i thought it was already bad enough, not being able to change the channels and having to extend our bloody necks over the next passenger's enormous head to view a screen probably showing some wayang or shit like that. but what happened next was that i looked all the way down the aisle and discovered that it was not a TV but a PAINTING OF A WATERFALL. yes. a PAINTING. and the flight was 5 hours long so they probably thought it was ideal for their passengers to stare at a PAINTING for 5 full hours and think like confucious or something like that. ridiculous, i tell you. so the next 5 hours was me falling in and out of sleep and stoning at the seat infront of me. i didn't even have a window.
why am i saying all this? well let this be a warning to those who ever consider taking China Eastern Airlines. by the time the food actually comes to you, the usual 2 choices of food are reduced to one. and the next best thing is that they ask you the uber-fucking-stupid question: we have prawn rice and beef noodles but only prawn rice is left. which one do you want? even more ridiculous, i say. i can only shake my head in despair at such a question and take the tray without uttering a word.
okay i shall not go ranting about the plane cos most people at this point would rather pay a hundred bucks more to take a transport that has a decent screen, food that is edible, does not crash into a bird in mid-air or at least has crew that can speak properly. i shall go into the details of my trip instead, although they are not as a bad experience as this. but still, bad enough.
what i can say i enjoyed about the trip was only the food and drinks. yes. the food is amazingly cheap and superiorly edible. and the drinks were drinkable too. they all were really nice and nothing beats the rice, for one. and in there you get hungry very easily.
the weather is the number one killer. i'd much prefer singapore weather to that place. i went there in winter last year, i was piling on the clothing which was probably thick enough to be bulletproof since the weather was sub-zero. but this time i go there in summer and the temperature increases almost a degree everyday. by the time i left that land of hell it was a whopping 36 degrees. earlier on it hit 39, which was probably hot enough for you to fry an egg on the sidewalk. even a restaurant 400m down the road required the use of a taxi. that's 2 bucks gone. for the sun. yeah. we all love the sun, do we?
at night it wasn't too bad ; we simply went out for nice food, took a slow walk back in the 28-degree weather with a bit of a breeze back to the apartment where we look at a black box and start our shouting. yes. the world cup is here. and i have been watching almost every match. incredible, especially when i'm not exactly a soccer fan. but what i know after watching these matches is that crouch will only header a ball properly into the goal after 4 or 5 unsuccessful tries. and ronaldinho runs like a penguin. no joke.
nothing much we did there actually ; the motive of going there was to just visit my dad and study, but i guess we did have a bit of outings. i still remember climbing two mountains (relax folks they're really nothing) and plucking berries from the trees. amazing eh? how a few fruits make people go so far. and they were quite sour. not to mention their juice leaves indelible and abominable red stains on your shirt like someone out of the Texas Chainsaw massacre. and we got lost in the jungle on our way down. wonderful.
we got ourselves hooked up to a room for a karaoke session in some k-box price-thrashing posh entertainment building. nothing much still, i drank a bottle of china bacardi (DON'T EVER TRY THAT SHIT) and tried to project my already degrading voice to the likes of Blink-182's All The Small Things, Matchbox Twenty's Unwell, The Eagles' Hotel California and probably one more song. but i forgot. and the only one that sounded nice was hotel california. i love that song. wait till i learn the solo.
and one more thing: china is INFESTED with mozzies. can you imagine living at 19th floor with mozzies buzzing around your head? i couldn't even sleep properly. and i slept on the sofa. apparently there wasn't enough beds.
the most hateful thing there was that my sim card got erased by some weird machine of theirs. customs scanner machines. and my entire phone book is gone. yes. each and every of the 140 contacts have vanished into thin air. i couldn't be more pissed knowing there was no hope of recovery. and the best thing was that the phone had its C drive formatted so i have lost my backup. brilliance, i call it. so for those of you who know me and see this, please drop me a message at 97582200 and tell me who you are. (jonathan, duane, marcel, jiaqi, sean, tarun, dinesh, cliff and carys you can save five cents, for your numbers will always be in my head, serious.)
so back at home i am, knowing there can't be a better place than good ol' singapore. home sweet home. and all my allowance has been spent on my dear friends. yvonne, sean, tarun, jiaqi, carys, clara, cliff and dinesh you can look forward to getting something hopefully nice enough when school reopens. after all it's quite hard trying to find stuff for friends, the stuff there either being fake or too expensive if it wasn't. so there goes my 100 bucks, but it's money well spent. i can't wait to give it away.
enough of my ranting, everyone. i shall end this post with some pictures i took from there. and keep in mind, LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING. ben, out.
