so the mid-years are tomorrow. many of you would think i would be insane to blog at this time but i guess i deserve a little of it cos i have been studying since the whole of two days ago. yes. it was my annual-without-fail, or rather every-major-exam-without-fail study marathon at the one and only study destination away, away and away -- singapore changi airport. it is my second time now, my first being the period about one week before the o levels. this time it is like 2 days before the exams, so i guess i was a little late. but thanks to my overseas trip i really have no choice since i think that nonetheless airport study is really effective.
like last year there was lots of idling, but when we started it got down to serious stuff. apparently last minute cancellations of dinesh's presence had got me really worked up thinking i would be the only one staying there overnight. sean already had plans NOT to stay so that's alright. when he was around it was quite fun anyway. i phoned almost the entire class and none of them could make it. so thinking for a few seconds on who would make the best acquaintance for this year's marathon, i finally came to the most feasible and the best answer i ever had -- jonathan. well apparently i almost forgot about asking him due to his hectic schedule which i think is. i least expected to get a positive answer from him, but God helped me that day and soon after a short nap he was on his way to the airport. i couldn't believe it. we studied last year at the same place and this year it is back to the good ol' days. the fun in mugging.
this year we reworked different plans. we went to cold storage at 9pm to stock up on really a huge chunk of food in the form of cream crackers (damn the hup seng, ah tan :D), digestives (mmmm), chocolate bars and large drink bottles. we went back to the same old place we studied at last year -- the same exact corner we sat last year. secluded, but with a view of the entire departure hall. no one walked past there (well at least it was a dead end). the perfect place with a toilet about 10 steps down the corridor and water supply 19 steps down (the water cooler). sean, you know where it is. others, all of you can just let your heart sink cos i won't tell you where this place is. the airport is so big, you can go look for yourselves. this is jonathan and MY territory and it'll always be. i shall have a nice lil' pic here but you guys will never find out where that is. you can try. and sean, keep everything to yourself. haha.
the most hilarious thing was that 1.5 hours into the studying there john decided to pay a visit to jiang's house. well apparently he is our tuition teacher but more than that. you can read the earlier stuff to find out why. so at 2230h we decided to call jiang and within seconds we had hauled our asses out of the airport back to real urbanisation. it was quite a smart idea of his anyway ; we could ask jiang any questions if we had doubts. and we had a nice toilet, computer access and more. so i guess it is a better option. jiang had lessons at somewhere else and he would only be back at 12 PLUS according to himself. but the smartest thing was that i found that out only after we settled our hurting asses on 36 and we were pulling out of the airport. so there we were on the shaky bus at 11pm and jiang's house was 10 minutes away. for the next hour and a half, we just sat at the lobby and talked and john teached me some sort of break dance move. well i know i ain't exactly built for that but anyway variety is good. it looked quite cool although it was a basic step. and i couldn't get it. time to practice!
next it was the two of us sitting in on a bench facing the road in front of us. apparently we can see taxis and other vehicles turning in and there were many turns that lead to the various blocks, so we just sat there and anticipated when jiang would be arriving in a taxi. each time a cab pulled in, we had a weird conversation. it was something like this.
(blue comfort cab pulls in at 12.10am)
john:look! that's jiang!
(cab turns to block J)
john:damn it it's not! (both of us continue to munch on crackers)
(citycab pulls in at 12.13am)
john:ah, that is jiang.
(citycab turns to block L)
john:fuck la! it's not jiang!
(rain falls. i open my phone's media player and blast maroon 5's sunday morning.)
ben:ah see the song matches. (sings) sunday morning rain is falling...
(one red union cab and another citycab both pull in at the same time at 12.26am)
john:two cabs. sure one of them is jiang. i bet with you $2 it's jiang.
(citycab turns, union cab turns on hazard lights and stops in a car lot)
ben: HAAHAHAHAHA!
john: FUCK man! none of them is jiang! (sighs and shoves in more blueberry crackers)
(rain rages and another union cab turns in at 12.45 and heads towards our block.)
ben: AH i bet it's NOT jiang! hahaha! i bet you're going to get jacked again!
(cab stops in front of us. jiang disembarks.)
ben: FUCK MAN! it's jiang!
john: HAHAHAHAHAHA!
hmmm. weird is it, we really had nothing better to do. and we stayed up to watch the argentina-germany match at 3am. i fell asleep on the couch and someone apparently fiddled with my phone, causing some discomfort or rather irritation in some of my friends, i think. and to the wastage of my smses. well i have yet to find out what they are.
got up at 9.30am to read up on econs. feeling really rotten. well apparently i'm not in the best of moods knowing it rained the previous night and i wake up not being able to take a shower and brush my teeth immediately. well to those of you who don't know, if i don't bathe and brush my teeth in the morning i get really cranky and stuff. i love the freshness of toothpaste so don't deprive me of it or you'll be really screwed.
later on in the evening jiang, john, my two sis and me went to the lagoon about an underpass away from jiang's house to fish for well, fish. he stays right behind east coast park so it was less than 5 min of walking. we raided the "ski 360" area, which was where people wakeboard, with a net and a bucket and by nightfall we had countless jellyfishes, one sea urchin, two tiny fishes, lots of shrimps and a tiny crab. not a bad session. all of them were dumped into jiang's marine aquarium. it was onlt then we realised that there were a bit too many jellyfish. but the blue light made them look so cute.
a sort of quite screwed up study marathon for the mid-years, but quite indeed a very memorable one. promos are coming and i make sure i'll plan that one really well. and we won;t be eating BK or Macs (they can just fuck off, fast food). instead we'll be saving to splurge on Fish & Co, Crystal Jade, Sakae Sushi, Starbucks and Coffee Bean. Now that's livin' it up. in the style of mugging. and guys, for the second time, don't tell me about 3 people studying together. cos i already find it hard having just one friend. so i guess when it comes to the overnight part, there can, and will, be no replacement for the two brothers of destruction and mugging fun -- jonathan and me. i hate to say it, but there will be no one else there distracting us from concentrating. and ah tan, if you see this, get ready to start saving too. heh heh heh. ben, out.
